CAT5e premium grade at CCTVDEPOT

Having the right cable for your cctv system is crucial if you want to achieve the best quality image and transmission speeds.

Having a 8MP 4K HD CCTV System with sub-standard cable is like having a Ferrari with a Ford engine! The cable is what carries the signal so it’s important you ensure you have invested in the best quality cabling.

For over 34 years, CCTVDEPOT has worked on commercial projects and we have countless stories where the wrong cable has cost a client over 8x the system cost in having to rewire

Here’s some tips to ensure you getting the best cable for your system

1. Pure copper Vs CCA (Copper Clad Aluminium)

The first thing to check when you are buying Category5e/6 cable is if it is in-fact pure copper. You will always find alternatives in the industry which may seem cheaper but they are cheap for a reason! Pure copper is one of the most expensive metals used in the cabling industry due to it’s brilliant conductivity qualities.

Aluminium and steel are much cheaper but dont have the same qualities. So cheaper suppliers sell a sub standard low equivalent of a CAT5e cable by using CCA cable. Copper Clad Aluminium. Essentially a very cheap and thin version of a copper is used and then it is cladded with aluminium (usually at a ratio of 10:90) making the conductivity speeds much less.

ALWAYS GO FOR PURE COPPER CABLING WHEN BUYING ANY CAT5e or CAT6 CABLE-AND AVOID CCA (COPPER CLAD ALUMINIUM CABLE)

2. Conductor size

The second thing to check is the conductor size. A thin conductor size will reduce the ability of the cable to carry ample current to the camera which often leads to the camera dropping out or not being able to hold POE signal on greater distances. It will also lessen the chances of you being able to transmit the full quality of the camera back to recorder.

3. Jacket Quality

The final thing to check when buying a cable is the quality of the Jacket. This is essential for long term durability. When you are fitting the cable outside and exposing it to the elements, it is worthwhile going for a DUCT GRADE quality. This allows you to fit the cable outside, lay it in the ground without having to worry about the cable deteriorating over time.

CCTVDEPOT’s Cable is one of the best CAT cables in the market and has been chosen by thousands of companies and homes for giving the best picture quality.

– Pure copper

– Double Jacket Duct Grade (most cables are single Jacket)

– Large conductor size giving excellent POE distances.
